Blašková, Ivana ; Loneková, Katarína (advisor) ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (referee)
This master thesis deals with infertility and its treatment. Both in the theoretical and empirical part, it focuses on the female aspects of the issue. The theoretical part summarizes an overview of key information important to understand the presented problems. We define the terms, describe the psychological and physiological causes of infertility, the process of treatment of infertility and aspects thereof. We focus on the depression rate related to infertility and its treatment, furthermore, we deal with type locus of control related to the experienced rate of depression. Our aim in the empirical part is to describe the depression rate, type of locus of control within the two samples of women acquired by us and capture the possible connections. The sample is made of 58 women who are currently undergoing a treatment for infertility and of the control group, which is made of 58 healthy women. To collect the data, we used the Beck Depression Inventory BDI-II, the Rotter's Internal- External Scale and the anamnestic questionnaire. Based on acquired data, we found out some specifity in depression rate and type of locus of control within our samples of women.

Vaňková, Hana ; Čelko, Alexander (advisor) ; Dohnal, Karel (referee) ; Jirák, Roman (referee)
Possibilities of prevention reflecting geriatric principles: Functional status and depressivity in old age Hana Vaňková, MD Abstract Background: Given the population ageing in Europe and in the Czech Republic, strategies aiming to prevent functional decline in older age are of great importance. Depression in old age increases functional decline and is also associated with increased morbidity, mortality and deterioration of quality of life (Anstey et al., 2007; Karakaya et al., 2009). Therefore, there is a need for a comprehensive intervention addressing both functional status and depressive symptoms. Methods: Using comprehensive geriatric assessment, the relationship between functional status and depressive symptoms was examined in 308 residents of long-term care facilities (RCFs) in the Czech Republic. Depressive symptoms were measured using the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale. An additional randomized control trial (RCT) evaluated the effect of a dance-based therapy on depressive symptoms in 162 institutionalized older adults with average age over 80 years. Results: A multiple regression analyses adjusted for sociodemographic factors and for taking antidepressants found that cognitive function and functional limitation by pain were most strongly associated with depressive symptoms. The ability to...
Depressivity and self-esteem in adolescence
KŘÍŽ, Jakub
The aim of the study is to explore depressivity as one of the symptoms of depression, manifested by the actual disharmony in a person. The study was carried out on a sample of 442 Czech adolescents from grammar schools and high schools from two regions of the Czech Republic. A sub-objective was to explore how the level of depressivity and self-esteem are related and whether self-esteem differs among adolescents classified as depressive and non-depressive. For a section of the research, a quantitative design was selected and a battery of tests was created using the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). We have come to the following findings. The group consisted of 19% depressive respondents (84 individuals) of whom 3,6% were boys (16) and 15,4% (68) were girls. We have found that girls, boys and our entire study group are more depressive compared to normative groups from the Czech Republic and abroad. In the process of verifying the hypothesis, the inclination towards depressivity was found in the gender difference (girls have a greater tendency than boys), but the depressivity rate of only depressive individuals did not differ in relation to gender. The hypothesis of decreasing depressivity during late adolescence was not confirmed. We found that the level of self-esteem and general self-efficacy negatively correlated with the level of depressivity and that depressive individuals have, compared to non-depressive ones, lower self-esteem and general self-efficacy.

Lesse, Klára ; Gillernová, Ilona (advisor) ; Šturma, Jaroslav (referee)
This master thesis focuses on atopic eczema in children and adolescents from a psychological perspective. The aim of this text is to describe and emphasize the psychological aspects of this disease and characterize the areas it may concern and affect. Regarding the structure, the thesis is divided into three parts. The introductory theoretical part is focused on a description of the explored subject-matter, the aim was to submit a comprehensive perspective on this disease and outline a relevant psychological basis for the empirical enquiry. The second empirical part is focused on the intrinsic aspects of the experience of this disease in children and adolescents. The quantitative research was designed to map out the specific phenomena, incidence of depressive symptoms and family upbringing style. The quantitative research is complemented by a qualitative inquiry with the aim to get further into depth of the issue by means of two case studies. These were focused on the overall experience related to the diagnosis of atopic eczema. The final part reflects acquired findings and the conclusive discussion summarizes the results of the exploratory assumptions including the limits and the possibilities of future psychological work with this disease. Keywords Atopic eczema, psychosomatic approach,...
